Manages and drives the efficiency and effectiveness of the maintenance programs and services in multiple rolling stock support shops including the repair and overhaul of rolling stock system components and Line Replaceable Units (LRU’s) in support of the strategies and priorities of maintenance division and the rail company.
  • Develops departmental objectives, annual operating plans and budget in support of the strategies and priorities of maintenance division and the rail company. Develops policies, procedures and standards in alignment with legislations, regulations, industry standards, and safety requirements.
  • Manages and holds overall accountability for the maintenance programs and services in multiple support shops including the repair and overhaul of rolling stock system components and Line Replaceable Units (LRU’s). Monitors and ensures the compliance of work with legislation, regulations and standards. Monitors and drives the efficiency and effectiveness of the development, implementation and delivery of the maintenance programs and services according to the enterprise asset management framework. Manages associated contracted services provided by external sources.
  • Develops the departmental performance metrics, conducts in depth analyses and provides reports to the Director and leadership team.
  • Supports growth, innovation and change of the department, division and the rail company by managing initiatives and projects in reporting area.
  • Forms strong partnerships and develops the trusted, productive relationships and highly responsive interaction with multiple internal and external stakeholders at different levels.
  • Manages direct and indirect reporting staff, including selection, development, coaching, managing performance, assigning/reviewing work and all other people management practices
Education & Experience:
The competencies for this position would be acquired through a Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, plus six (6) years’ experience in progressively responsible positions in maintenance including supervisory experience with a multi-disciplined team in a unionized environment, preferably in transit or rail industry.
Other Requirements:
  • Advanced knowledge of the concepts, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to Rolling Stock system components and Line Replaceable Units (LRU’s) maintenance
  • Solid knowledge of emergency response planning and services
  • Solid planning and organizational skills to develop strategies and plans for elevating device system maintenance, with particular emphasis on operational and resource planning to optimize service and control cost.
  • Solid interpersonal and communication skills to provide expertise and advice to BCRTC Senior management and to represent BCRTC on internal/external committees and stakeholder meetings
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, and relationship management skills
Other Information
Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
